Frequently Asked Questions

General

What types of training does the Additive Manufacturing Institute offer?

We provide comprehensive training in Rhino 3D CAD software and Additive Manufacturing (AM) related topics like Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM). Our courses include foundation and advanced Rhino 3D modelling modules with general and industry-specific application exercises (e.g., jewellery, automotive, architecture). Rhino modules can also be done separately for learners who only require to learn specific sets of tools like SubD Modelling, AM-focused training, including 3D printing technologies and how to design for the various platforms. Formats range from online tutorials to in-person classes and self-paced courses on our platform.

Our courses cater to diverse learners:

  • Students: Learn Rhino 3D at your own pace, with support for fields like jewellery design, industrial design, and architecture.

  • Educators: Access professional content to teach Rhino 3D or AM to students, available online or in-person.

  • Professionals: Upskill in Rhino 3D or AM for industries like jewellery, automotive, and marine design.

  • Hobbyists: Explore CAD and 3D printing for personal projects with flexible, beginner-friendly modules.

Since 2008, under our former name BunnyCorp, we have delivered Rhino 3D training and workshops for various industries and academic institutions. With over 18 years of experience, we expanded to include AM training, leveraging our expertise as early adopters of 3D printing technologies.

Rhino Training

Why focus on Rhino 3D?

Rhino 3D is a leading CAD software for precise 3D modelling, widely used in jewellery, automotive, architecture, and industrial design. It is also one of the most cost-effective CAD options that does not require yearly licenses and is easy to learn. Our courses emphasise their practical applications, helping learners master tools, problem-solve, and apply skills to industry-specific projects.

No prior experience is required. Our courses are structured for beginners to advanced learners, with core modules explaining each tool and industry-specific exercises to build practical skills. Support is available to guide you at every step.

Our training modules all share the same core training, set up to give you a solid understanding of the tools in Rhino, with different added modules for specific industries. All courses have application exercises set after each modelling module that is focused on industry-specific projects and can be custom-tailored to jewellery, automotive, footwear, architecture, marine, and industrial design. Additional specialised modules, such as a digital setting for jewellers, advanced subd modelling, etc, can be added for industry-specific courses. It can also allow for customised learning outcomes.

Courses are offered in multiple formats:

  • In-Person | Studio/Workplace: Hands-on workshops at our facilities or client locations.
  • In-Person | Online: Hands-on workshops online from single learners to big groups.
  • Online Platform: Self-paced tutorials on our platform.
  • In-Person: Hands-on workshops at our facilities or client locations. Each module includes exercises, tips, and industry-specific applications to ensure practical learning.

  • On-demand: from short 15min to 1hr sessions to help sort problems or learn specific tools.

Design for Additive Manufacturing Training

What does the AM training cover?

Our AM courses cover the fundamentals of 3D printing, including technologies, materials, and applications in design and manufacturing. We focus on bridging the ascended knowledge gaps, integrating AM into workflows, and fostering innovation across industries.

Yes, our AM courses are designed for all levels, from beginners to professionals. We offer accessible learning materials to help learners understand AM’s potential, regardless of prior knowledge.

Rhino 3D is a key tool for designing 3D-printable models. Our courses integrate Rhino 3D with AM, teaching you how to create precise models for 3D printing and optimize designs for manufacturing processes.

Course Logistics

What are the course formats and durations?

What are the course formats and durations?

  • Short Courses: 1–4 days, focusing on specific skills (e.g., Rhino 3D basics, digital setting).

  • Full Programs: Multi-week courses covering comprehensive Rhino 3D or AM training.

  • Custom Modules: Tailored sessions for specific industries or needs.
Online courses are self-paced, while in-person workshops follow a structured schedule.

Costs vary by course type and duration. For detailed pricing, contact us at info@rhino3dmasterclass.com or visit the course page that will display the current live courses and pricing or alternatively, download the Information PDF on each page that lays out all costs and options. Discounts are available for students, educators, and group bookings.

No formal prerequisites are required for the foundation courses, but basic computer literacy is recommended. The advanced modules work best once the foundation courses have been done prior, but previous basic courses and experience can also be sufficient. Keep in mind that there may still be gaps as our foundation courses cover details that most do not. Prior Rhino 3D or design experience, which we can assess during enrollment.

Yes, participants receive a certificate of completion for each course, recognized by industry partners and the Jewellery Council of South Africa (JCSA) for relevant programs.

Support and Resources

What kind of support is available during training?

Our instructors provide personalized support via email, live chat, or in-person guidance. Online learners have access to our platform’s support forum, and in-person students benefit from hands-on assistance.

Rhino 3D software licenses are not included but can be purchased through our partner, Simply Rhino SA (www.simplyrhino.co.za). AM courses may include access to 3D printers during in-person sessions, depending on the program.

Yes, online course materials are accessible on our platform for a specified period post-completion (typically 6–12 months). In-person participants receive digital or printed materials, depending on the course.
